MY PRACTICE

My work explores the representation of women through the female gaze, reclaiming narratives that have long been shaped by an external perspective. Using oil pastels, I embrace their raw texture and vibrant intensity to capture the complexities of femininity—its strength, vulnerability, resilience, and softness.

Through my current work, I seek to challenge conventional depictions of women by centring their own experiences, emotions, and autonomy. The female form in my work is not an object to admire but a subject to be understood—full of presence, agency, and untold stories.

Oil pastels allow me to work instinctively, layering colour and form in a way that feels intimate and expressive. The medium’s tactile nature mirrors the fluidity of identity and emotion, blurring the line between abstraction and realism. My inspiration comes from personal experiences, historical representations of women, and the everyday moments that reveal the struggles beneath the surface.

Ultimately, my art is a celebration of women as seen by women—unfiltered, authentic, and deeply human.
